My wife went into labour recently. Labour was progressing as expected, she spent some time in the bath, contractions were manageable and she did not need pain relief. At this point, we did not need to go to the hospital for the birth, as contractions were spaced apart and were not long, or intense enough to indicate imminent delivery. My wife got out of the bath and following trying to go to the toilet, felt the urge to push. At this point, I could see part of the head of the child. I called 999 and the operator did a fantastic job of keeping me calm, talking me through what to do, what my wife needed to do and allowed us to safely deliver our first child! Our boy arrived into the world 10 minutes after the call was started (very quick!!) The ambulance team arrived 10 minutes later and were great in assisting my wife into hospital, reassuring her and taking care of our new child.
Thank you to everyone involved. Your help means the world to us.
