I had occasion to visit Herts and Essex Walk In Centre for a persistent nosebleed a few months ago. I was seen promptly by a very sympathetic receptionist/nurse, who explained that unfortunately they could not treat me there because a doctor needs to treat nosebleeds, so I would need to go to Harlow A & E. However, knowing that there would be a very long wait to be assessed at Harlow, she bleeped the on-call ENT doctor there to alert them, and when I arrived at Harlow, I was expected, and did not have to wait very long to be seen. I was extremely grateful that she did this, as when we arrived at Harlow, the expected waiting time was at least four hours.
