"Frustrating car park"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital

(as the patient),

Yesterday I was returning a Heart Monitor to the Cardiology Department. The new parking system asks its patients to be clairvoyants by making them pay for the time they THINK they will be at the hospital. Ridiculous, given the entire country knows that the NHS is under pressure and that it's impossible to predict how long you might be waiting to be seen. I opted for the pay online before midnight option.

Later that evening it turned out to be impossible to register my vehicle and pay as the website continually failed to move onto the payment part of the process. As this was supposed to be done by midnight, I gave up trying after the deadline had passed. I had only been in the carpark from 12.36 - 12.50 - a total of 14 minuets, but now fear being hit with a fine.

The new system at this car park is truly appalling. Since having used it a month ago, when I picked-up my heart monitor, I noticed that a new sign had appear, asking users NOT to abuse the parking attendants. I think this sign says it all; it's not working and people are getting very frustrated.

If you're visiting the hospital you're either ill yourself, or visiting a family member or friend who is ill. Or you're worried that you MIGHT be ill. Stress levels are high, i feel this car park system verges on the sadistic by unnecessarily amplifying visitors' anxieties. Also, I see a lot of old people attending the hospital - people who perhaps don't have computers or smart phones and therefore cannot pay later to avoid the queues , fuss  and impossible predictions involved in paying  at the time.

Good afternoon,

I am sorry that you have had this experience, unfortunately I have to ask you to complain directly to the owners of the car park Bullens, this is not a Norfolk and Norwich University run car park, the e-mail address is complaints@parkingprotection.co.uk.

Once again I am sorry you have had this experience here at the hospital.

Kindest regards

Sarah Lynam

PALS Manager
