I received a letter to attend for a Colonoscopy, when I contacted the Queen Elizabeth hospital Glasgow I was given a appointment the following Sunday. From the moment I arrived I received the highest level of service.
From the nurses who had been brought in from surrounding areas to the medical staff and doctor. At the end of the procedure I was given a diagram of my bowels together with a letter explaining what my problem was. I walked out after only 4 hours feeling just how wonderful or NHS is.
I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis and it was suggested that I try to cut down on my Paracetamol and Dihyrocodeine. I have Osteoarthritis and a lot of pain. I attend the Rheumatology department at Gartnavel under Dr Bawa but my saving angel is Kay a highly qualified nurse practitioner here. So I called her explaining my problem and within 3 hours I was in Gartnavel having a steroid injection. This will help me cut down on the other drugs. This morning I saw my own GP Dr Harrand at the Ashfield practice and he advised how to help with my constipation.
Looking back at this week, could anyone have done more, certainly not.I am blessed to live in Great Britain and extremely fortunate to be surrounded by such professional and caring NHS staff. I can only hope to somehow those involved in my holistic, coordinated and excellent care are recognised.
