"Waiting times for surgery"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Orthopaedics (Wards 10a, 10b, 10c &10d)

(as the patient),

After waiting a long time for hip replacement surgery it finally received a pre op appointment in August 2019 Which I passed , but after complaining several times I revived a date for surgery on the in December 2019 and I was told at the time there was a 50-50 chance surgery would be cancelled , as there is always a shortage of beds at the hospital , I had to go for another pre op in 2019 which I failed. I was not that surprised as my condition was getting worse day by day and with not being able to sleep and with no appetite is was a struggle, I was told my operation was cancelled due to my blood being low , but I would have been cancelled any way due to the shortage of beds

I explained if I would have been given a date shortly after my first pre op  I would have been good for surgery , no one took any notice of me I just felt they brushed me aside , I have had 5 B12 injections and I am on iron tablets , then in February I received a phone call to tell me I have been taken off the waiting list for surgery as I am clogging it up and there has been no surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Glasgow for the past two month due to no beds available. this seems to be all the time I hear this.

I asked  who made this decision. I found out and so I phoned them up and was told yes you are off the list for surgery and when your blood  is up to scratch we will try and see you in 18 weeks , I could not believe what I was hearing  I said to that’s five months, they said yes I no and  we can’t give any dates,  I explained how much pain I am in they were not interested and quite off handish , ,

when I told my children what I was told my son was nearly in tears and my daughter started to cry and said she want her mum bed as they can see how much pain I am in and I try and be strong fo then but when I try and stand up my bones crunch and click and the pain just get worse  just like having electric shocks going through my body and I try not to let my family see this but it’s hard  and not fair on them

Now I have no end in sight my pain is unbearable now I don’t sleep can’t stand and both my hips have the same pain and my right knee swell up it I try and stand , animals would not be left to suffer like this , I have had no quality of life for a long time and dont see any change in the near future I feel the NHS are making me I’ll and stressing me out I feel I have not been treated properly , this is affecting all my family

Dear Please help me sleep and walk again

Thank you so much for posting your frustrations on Care Opinion. I am so sorry to hear of the delays that you have been experiencing. I have spoken to my colleagues at the Queen Elizabeth University Hopsital and they have asked me to pass on a direct contact e-mail whereby they shall investigate your situation. Can I please ask you to contact the General Manager for Surgery Susan.groom@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

I do hope that you find a resolution soon in order that you can sleep and walk again.

Kind regards

Sheila

Thank you for your response it’s nice to no that some one is listening, it would not be allowed to let animals suffer so why is there no help for humans.
