"Booking An Appointment!"

About: The Lawson Practice

(as the patient),

I forgot to book myself another appointment with my GP as I was anxious.

And just wanted to leave the practice and go home at my last visit.

I remembered that my GP told me to book the appointment, but when I hadn’t received my text message appointment reminder I decided to call the GP and the lovely receptionist took the time to help me and booked me an appointment for next week.

I was feeling extra anxious on top of my anxiety.

Now the extra anxiety has subsided.

You have my sympathy. I suspect we've all been there; anxiety certainly does have a very major effect on us and our ability to think clearly and your description of just wanting to get out of the practice after your appointment is very understandable. I'm really glad to hear that the receptionist was supportive and sorted things for you and that this helped reduce your anxiety. We do have many discussions at the practice about how anxiety affects peoples' behaviour but there is nothing more effective for us than reading about real experiences. If anyone reading this recognises that they struggle to communicate when anxious, please do let reception know so that they can take that in to account when trying to support you. Thank you for your feedback.
