"Hospital admission"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I was having severe breathing difficulties on Christmas Eve, 2019. I was attended by two Paramedics: Claire and Robert. (The names are from memory, so they may not be 100% accurate).

After carrying our the tests in my house it was decided that I had to be admitted to be checked out fully.

I was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and admitted.

Update posted by HWC (the patient)

Dear Sheila, my experience was very positive and I feel that some of the story is missing. The paramedics were both empathetic and professional. The admitting staff were also great. I was attended to immediately. I have never used NHS for emergency medicine and I’m so very pleased about the whole process. I received my follow up X-ray last week.

I wrote back to the Care Opinion saying that I wanted my story to be amended to reflect the exceptional service of the Paramedics. Even before they finished their shift, bearing in mind it was Christmas Eve, they popped in to see how I was.

This type of behaviour goes way beyond their contractual terms and goes to the heart of the type of individuals they are.

Thanks for the email. I also have a small thank you for the Paramedics and if you could advise how I could facilitate giving them this, I would be grateful. I did fill in something on the Scottish Ambulance website hoping that it would provide feedback to the Paramedics and their supervisors.

My story as it stands, didn’t mention the overall positive experience.

Many thanks,

Dear HWC,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share this feedback on CareOpinion. I am very sorry that you have had reason to use our service but in reading your reply to Sheila, am very encouraged and pleased to read about the professionalism and care shown by our staff. What wonderful words!

I am more than happy to assist you in your pursuit to thank the staff and I would love to make sure your kind words make their way to them and their supervisors. If I could ask that you email me at alan.martin2@nhs.net I will ensure this happens.

I hope you are feeling a lot better now and making a full recovery.

Thanks again

Alan
