"I felt like I was being punished...."

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

In September 2019 I was really poorly and couldn't move, I had pains everywhere.  I rang for an ambulance and waited, and waited, so much I had to phone them again.  When they did come they didn't offer me any pain relief.  I was taken to Wishaw Hospital A & E where the situation did not improve.  I was left on a trolley for 5 hours.  I couldn't access the toilet or get any help.  Nurses told me they were busy.  I am disabled, I am not a junkie or an alcoholic I am a nice person yet I was left to suffer, treated like an animal and made to feel most unwelcome.

Eventually they gave me some medication and discharged me, the medication was useless - it did nothing.  I felt I was being punished because of my age and disability.

Two weeks later I suffered a mini-stroke which affected my speech.

My own consultant is appalled by my treatment.

Dear Doradopd38

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback on Care Opinion. I am sorry to read that you had a need to use our services and those of the wider NHS. I do hope that you are on the road to recovery.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience and I would be very grateful for an opportunity to have this reviewed with a view to take any learning from your feedback. Would you be so kind as to contact me at scotamb.feedback@nhs.net and provide me with the details of what happened? I would require the date, rough time and address that we attended to allow me to locate the job.

Once again thanks for sharing your feedback and I hope that you are feeling better.

Kind Regards

Alan
