"Miscarriage experience"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital

(as a service user),

I was referred to Rubislaw Ward at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital after attending a private scan at 8 weeks pregnant with our first baby. We knew something was wrong during our first scan but unfortunately the private scanning clinic did not explain what was happening and we left feeling confused and upset.

The care we received at Rubislaw Ward was excellent. After receiving two scans it was unfortunately confirmed that we had had a missed miscarriage. We were sensitively informed of all of our options and we decided to have surgical management of miscarriage under general anaesthetic which was arranged for the next day.

I was anxious the day of the procedure, unsure what to expect but was quickly put at ease by all the staff from the midwives on the Ward, to the theatre nurse that held my hand whilst I was being sedated. A special thanks to Megan the midwife at Rubislaw. You were so kind and made sure I had all the information I needed from admission to discharge during this difficult time. You are definitely in the right job.

In times where staffing is limited and the nhs is busier than ever I think it’s important to celebrate great care especially during this difficult time in our lives. Thanks again.

Dear FMac,

Thank you very much for getting in touch to provide such wonderful feedback, during what must be a difficult time for you and your family, my condolences for your loss.
The staff in Rubislaw try so hard to ensure that the care they provide is sensitive to your needs and it is reassuring to know that this care continued while you were in theatre.

I will pass on your feedback to the staff who will be pleased to know that they are getting it right.

May I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Kind Regards

Liz
