"Helped us through the worst time in our lives..."

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Gastroenterology

(as a parent/guardian),

After years of sporadic niggling aches, pains, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, fainting, appetite loss and weight loss my son received his diagnosis of Crohns disease at the Royal hospital for sick children in Glasgow in 2016. He was seriously ill by this point and if left untreated I feel he would have died. He was admitted immediately for his first hospital stay. Followed by three years of hospital stays, appointments and treatments.

As a family we were like rabbits caught in headlights, in shock and struggling to understand why ? As we were in utter shock, worry and anxiety we felt lost, confused and very very concerned for our son and his future.

The work that the inflammatory bowel disease nurses did for us at this point and beyond was incredible.

Vikki, Lee and Lisa took us under their wings and with their support, care and compassion we finally started to live again.

The service they provide is not only five star but passionate, committed, understanding and motivating. Their roles as life coaches as well as medical nurses is understated and just as important as the medical side.

With their help and constant support my son and us as a family gradually adjusted and finally saw light at the end of the tunnel.

Our boy is now transitioning to adult services and I wanted to highlight the superb work being done daily by this whole team. I really can’t praise the help and support we have received from all the gastro team enough.

Dr Rachel, Dr Richard and dietician Elaine

And of course the three IBD angels who helped us through the worst time of our lives. I am eternally grateful.

Dear Judilou

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Care Opinion.

I can hear that you, your son and your family have been through some difficult times over the last few years. I am delighted to hear that your son is doing better now and that he is transitioning across to our colleagues in adult services.

It is lovely to hear of the compassionate care and support you have received from all members of our IBD Team. I have passed on your kind words and I know this will mean a lot to them.

I hope your son continues to do well and I know he will have ongoing support from the team taking over his care.

Best wishes

Jamie
