"Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) introduction group"

About: Community Forensic Services / Nottinghamshire MBT Service

(as a service user),

I have just completed the MBTi group at the Mandala Centre.

Hearing that other people feel like I do, I don’t feel so alone.  I found everyone supportive and understanding.  I found the facilitators helpful a I felt understood.  I felt listened to.  I have trouble opening up and so I think more questioning would have helped me.

I didn’t find it helpful with the confrontation experienced in the group (people ‘kicking off’), left me feeling unable to have my say when I had the confidence to.

I would like more sessions, it felt like a lot to squeeze in.  It might be good to end on an achievement rather than “depression” topic.  I think talking more about support after the course would be helpful as I now feel I’m just on my own and left to it (I have no other support network).

Thank you for this feedback. I can appreciate how helpful it is to feel heard/listened to. It seems that being with others, despite this being difficult at times, has been helpful for you in terms of no longer feeling quite so alone.

I can appreciate how difficult it can be being in a group with others, especially when other’s behave in ways we don’t expect. I am pleased you were able to recognise the impact of this on you (feeling unable to express yourself) and I hope this was something you thought about in your sessions. Despite the initial difficulties I do hope the MBTi has helped stand you in good stead for accessing the MBT therapy going forward if this is your next step.

Your comments about the group sessions is welcomed, thank you. These comments will be taken back to the team for further discussion as we are always keen to review what we do and why. Your feedback will help us inform/plan any future changes in the MBTi programme.

Best wishes, Louisa Hagan (Operational Team Leader)
