"Contacting referral management"

About: University Hospital Ayr

(as a service user),

A  minor issue, really.

I just got through a letter from NHS Ayrshire and Arran, saying please contact referral management to make an ENT Outpatient appointment, probably at Ayr Hospital. Now, I understand them sending these letters instead of just appointments - an opt-in system is sure to save on missed appointments. But the letter doesn't actually give the contact number anywhere.

It has a number for the patient transport service if you need to book an ambulance, but nothing for actually making the appointment it's asking about.

I'm about to ring the switchboard to try and get through to the right department, but this could put some folk off.

Dear redcx63

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

Our Referral Management Service had recently updated an appointment invitation letter and unfortunately the telephone contact details have not been saved properly to the new document.

Following receipt of a telephone call on Friday 7 February from a caller who highlighted the issue, we established which patients were affected and we have now made contact with them.

Thank you once again for bringing this issue to our attention.

Robert Bryden

Head of Health Records Services
