I took my father to his podiatry appointment at the Beacon today. We arrived 10 minute early for his appointment but as I couldn’t park, dad said he knew where to go, so I deposited him right outside the entrance. Fifteen minutes later, I managed to get a spot and went to find dad. There was no sign of him so I assumed that he was in one of the treatment rooms but he was nowhere to be found. A podiatrist saw me and told me that as we were just about 10 minutes late by that time, their policy was that we would need to reschedule, notwithstanding that dad is 97 years old, we were initially 10 minutes early, he was barely 10 minutes late and there was no one else waiting to be seen! After a couple of minutes, I found him in a waiting area near the entrance, having not been able to follow the signs and forgetting the name of the department he wanted! My father was extremely upset and confused, and for the sake of 10 minutes there was little empathy, flexibility or 'care' for a very elderly man. I had no alternative but to return him to the care home but will not be availing of Bromley care services in future!
