"Counselling sessions"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as a service user),

At first, I was apprehensive and wondered how this could actually help me as I was feeling very low, depressed and negative about everything.  When I first met my counsellor (Claire) she was very understanding and someone I felt I could talk to.   Claire was very good at just listening and summarising what I was saying, putting into words how it must feel I was experiencing these thoughts and feelings.  I felt that she really understood me without judgement.  Claire suggested I do the Mindfulness Course online but there was absolutely no pressure to complete and to just give it a go all in my own time.  I found the course very helpful and calming.  It is something I can return to if I start to feel I need a little bit of help and a coping tool to de-stress.

Claire knew that I liked to read and when I felt ready suggested an appropriate book which I found very enlightening and I learned a lot about myself.

I think if anyone is sceptical about counselling sessions they should at least give it a try - you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Thurrock Inclusion were very professional and the friendly staff on reception were very welcoming and made you feel comfortable straight away.

Thank you Claire for all your help.

Manage the team of therapists, and do some therapy myself.

Dear Girling,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us - starting therapy can be very anxiety-provoking for many people. Let's face it, it's not exactly normal to go and see a stranger and then tell them all your difficult thoughts and feelings! But as you quite rightly say, you had nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Counselling is always a very individual experience for those involved - both client and therapist; and no two experiences will be the same, but part of that process is about understanding what might work for you. It sounds as though mindfulness and reading were both things that fit with who you are as a person.

We are so pleased that you were able to get something really positive out of your counselling experience, and we wish you the best for your continued journey of wellbeing!

Mark
