"Strong pain around the stomach area"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

Painkiller lovers! Been there with a strong pain around the stomach area after have been sick few months.

Been in the Emergency last night due my daughter pain around the stomach area. After the first doctor check  (pressure), the very impolite and rude doctor, started to suggest painkillers! After a waiting of 3 hours (due our case was underestimate) we ve seen another doctor.

This one, just asking a few question, without any test, , had the diagnosis and the cure: painkillers! I had to insist and finally my daughter had a urine test, and, came out an infection of urine tract infection, so the painkillers won't help and finally we ve got antibiotics! I was shocked honestly. First, there is a lethal epidemic around, (coronavirus), I would expect a high state of alert, but unfortunately didn't see any. Second, treating and dismissing patients with pain just with painkillers, without any kind of test, is extremely dangerous, because if the patient has a pain is an alarm bell and with painkillers, if he's getting worse, can't feel anything..so you condemned him!

The Hospital makes the Doctors into painkiller dispensers! Stop to play with human's life, that is not a joke!

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to post your views of your recent visit to the Emergency Department at Glasgow Royal Infirmary on Care Opinion.

Whilst I appreciate that I am not fully aware of the circumstances of your daughters presentation at the ED, it does sound like it may have been more appropriate for your daughter to have attended her GP, the GP out of hours service or the minor injuries unit rather than the emergency department.

Please accept my apologies for the doctor who was impolite and rude. I will share your comments with senior staff within the emergency department.

Yours sincerely,

John Stuart

Chief Nurse.
