"Appointment with a consultant"

About: General practices in Fife Ninewells Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as the patient),

Back in April 2019 I was having discharge and pain in my right ear along with sinus feeling blocked so was at doctors thinking with my history of ear problems and operations I maybe had start of ear infection again. Got told to take antibiotics and take it from there. Over the months this discharge continues as with the feeling of bunged up and blocked. Went along to my nurses appointment to get ears checked as I do every 6 months for them to remove some wax, but not a lot and to return in 3 months as I was still having discharge.

So went back to doctors to be given more antibiotics to try. Again not worked and still discharge, pain sinus blocked. Given more different antibiotics to try still nothing helped. Got to December and I booked appointment at doctors and pleaded my case to get seen by consultant as I have had mastoiditis and a growth in ears so I have history of problems. Now I found out that the doctor wrote/sent letter/email but it was classed as a routine appointment. Then called Ninewells to be told there is a 12 week waiting list. I was already on week 5 went back to doctors to complain and told that they would escalate the issue and see about getting an appointment brought forward.

We're now starting week 8 only to be told the waiting list is still 12/14 weeks and there is no sign of me on the appointment list as yet I am still on the waiting list. I now have another 6 weeks at least to wait. Back at doctors today, they looked into my notes and again has said will contact ENT to see about getting an appointment.

Why should I have to ask to be seen by consultant surely that should have been picked up by the doctors, after all I have now seen 4 doctors and 2 nurses.
