"Toothache"

About: Falkirk Community Hospital

(as a service user),

I would like to ask why NHS Forth Valley deem it acceptable to have no emergency dental referral in Stirling which is a city! ! ! Being form Clackmannanshire it is bad enough there is none here, but to be expected to travel to Falkirk Community Hospital is an absolute disgrace, why at the very least are your dental services not located at Larbert which is far easier and more accessible via public transport?

Dear KK87KK

I'm really sorry to hear that it was difficult for you to reach the dental out of hours service.

We only run the service from the one site as the demand, in terms of patient numbers, isn't high enough to consider a second site.

Not all Forth Valley dentists direct their registered patients to the Health Board's out of hours dental service a number of them manage their own out of hours emergencies. These dentists are based mostly in the Stirling area and a few in Clacks area. When considering the location of the service we take participation in the service into consideration as well as population spread across the Health Board, current patient demand and our most appropriate facilities in terms of size, layout and access.

Please be assured we do periodically review the location of the out of hours service looking at various factors and will take your feedback into account.

Bog standard reply, still I had to attend on a Sunday and be there before any public transport could have got me there, costing me almost £50 in taxis, whilst in agony with toothache. And no I would not qualify to claim back via HC1 as I have such huge earnings of circa 24k BEFORE tax, NI, Pension etc deducted which classes me as being able to afford the travel costs. This has not given me an answer as to why Stirling as a City has no dental service, that is outrageous for a city not to have those facilities, it's disgraceful.
