"Maternity/post natal care"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

During my pregnancy at around 30 weeks there was a change from seeing a midwife to a midwife team. They saw me at home for the rest of my appointments which made things easier for me the further on I got. The care I received from team violet was great, I couldn't fault it. They were always keen to help and if I had a query after my baby was born they were quick to offer to come out to see us. I definitely think this is part of the reason I feel so well emotionally this time, because of the great aftercare I've have received from them.

I had a student midwife in labour along with a fully trained one - the student midwife will be a great credit to the NHS when she has qualified the level of reassurance and care she gave me was exceptional again totally different from my firstborn.

The care I received after having my baby when I went through to the postnatal ward - again I can't fault it. The midwives were friendly and keen to help when they could.

Neonatal- my son was in the neonatal for around 24 hours and the nursery nurses there were great, keen to help and friendly - my only criticism of the ward would be that as this was the first time I'd had a baby that had been in the neonatal the rules etc weren't explained to me I.e visitors have to wear aprons the only exception being parents. From what I saw and overheard the handovers when staff are changing over is very thorough and lots of information given. The first night when my son was admitted to neonatal I don't think I was given much information about what was wrong and what he was being tested/ given antibiotics for.

My overall experience with Aberdeen maternity this time round has been exceptional and I take my hat off to the staff who work long hours and are still helpful, kind and have a smile on their face.

Thank you very much. X

Dear plusrd65

Many congratulations on the birth of your son. Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback of your experience.

I am delighted Team Violet were a great support to you and will ensure I pass on your feedback to them. They will be so pleased to receive it.

It is always lovely to receive feedback from women and I am delighted you felt the student midwife caring for you in labour was helpful. I will share this with RGU colleagues as well as your lovely comments from your postnatal stay with the staff working there.

I'm sorry that information was not given to you regarding the Neonatal Unit and thank you for letting us know about this. I will discuss this with my colleagues to see if we can make improvements in this area.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience with us and I wish you much happiness

with my very best wishes

Rachael MacDonald

Dear plusrd65

Thank you for taking the time to write the above feedback, we rely on feedback to shape the future of our service. It is disappointing to read that you felt you did not receive enough information about the neonatal unit, I will feed this back to staff within the unit so they can reflect on this. A neonatal welcome booklet is about to be launched in the unit which will hopefully go some way to address your comment. Nursing staff have heavily involved parents in the many drafts of the booklet before it has 'gone live' so we hope we have captured all aspects of neonatal life to support our future families.

Congratulations on the birth of your son and I do hope you are enjoying your new arrival.

Kindest regards

Nicole Bauwens.
