"The excellent staff at Borders General Hospital"

About: Borders General Hospital / General Surgery (Ward 7)

(as a service user),

I went to see my local GP fearing the I had appendicitis when overnight stomach pains became much worse and localised. The emergency doc referred me straight on to the Borders General Hospital, Melrose. The care I received from beginning to end was impeccable.

After the A&E staff had triaged me, I was seen by the surgical doctor who went through my symptoms with me and decided that the best thing would be to have CT scan to see what was going on. I would be admitted overnight at least, just to be on safe side.

Not long after, I was in the scanner having my picture taken. Just 10 minutes or so later, I was being wheeled into Ward 7 to be met by the surgical doctor and the consultant who flagged us down. I was told it was an acute appendicitis and it was going to have to come out, that they were bumping me up to the head of the queue, so as soon as the person in surgery was done, I would go in. By around 11pm that same day, my appendix was out and I was recovering in a side room!

I was admitted on a Wednesday and got home on Friday that same week.

The staff on Ward 7 couldn't have taken better care of me, especially Craig. They all kept my spirits up: the consultants, doctors, nurses, porters, water jug-changers - everyone!

I was never made to feel that I was being a nuisance, and I could see that everyone genuinely cared.

Thank you so much to everyone at the BGH for making a molehill out of my mountain. You are all stars!

Dear KelsoPatient,

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us your feedback. I am incredibly pleased the staff took such good care of you. We always try our best to put our patients at ease as we understand requiring surgery can be daunting. I hope you are continuing to recover well and I will pass on your kind words to the whole team.

Thank you.
