"Parking"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

(as a service user),

I had appointments at Princess Alexandra Hospital at then end of December,i parked displaying my blue badge. I had to return twice in January 2020 and parked displaying my blue badge. I have now received 2 car parking fines of £100 each for parking at the hospital. As disabled i was told that you can park in any bay displaying blur badge free of charge. The car parking system obviously seems to have changed hands on the 1st of January 2020 and for people that are sick like me are unaware of these changes are now being fined for being ill. Disgusting state of affairs i cannot believe that this has happened. I cannot afford this and saw no new signs by disabled parking

When did blue badge holders have to pay for parking i am still none the wiser as too the new regulations concerning the new parking. Deeply saddened and apprehensive to go back to the hospital for on going treatment cant afford more fines,,,,,,,,,

Dear outofpocket,

I am sorry you had this experience. There are likely to be concessions available to you so please get in touch, but we no longer make an assumption that everyone with a blue badge can park for free.

We realise that the initial period of transition will mean that some people will get a parking fine, despite parking in good faith so please get in touch if you feel this is the case.

Free parking is still available to patients or relatives who:

• regularly attend the William's Day Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Gibberd Ward or Labour Ward

• are eligible via the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS).

We have made these changes to align with Department of Health and Social Care guidance available here known as Healthcare Technical Manual 07-03:

There is lots more information about the changes on our website:
