After our baby being diagnosed at my 20 week scan with a cleft lip and possible palate, we were then told to go to Aberdeen to meet with a nurse. After doing so we only received one, maybe two phone calls. It then got to the day of our babies arrival and no one could get hold of a specialist nurse who was supposed to be around when he was born. I tried to call, the hospital was unaware of the specialists location. This was then very stressful as lead to an extra day in hospital until a practitioner could be sent up from Glasgow. Since our boy was born I have had no contact from the service in Aberdeen.
Once the nurse from Glasgow started seeing us and our baby the support was much better and more helpful.
Leading up to our little boys surgery date I again had no contact from my local services in Aberdeen, only the nurse from Glasgow. Once in Glasgow for our little boys 1st operation it came to our attention that the service in Aberdeenshire that we received was next to nothing compared to the service that other cleft patients that are covered by the Glasgow nurses have received.
I am disappointed that people going through the same situation and diagnosis are not receiving the same support.
