"Waiting for test results"

About: Renal (Kidney) Medicine & Dialysis Southern General Hospital / Neurology

(as a relative),

My mother attended Southern General Hospital at the end of July for a lumber puncture; following this the consultant dictated her results and sent these to be typed in a letter to be sent to the same consultant. She then attended Crosshouse hospital to discuss the results on a month later only to be told the results had not reached the consultant. This is not an acceptable service.

The consultant who did the test, knows her test results but I think because he has dictated them to be typed by a third party rather than typing them himself my mother now has to spend another 2 weeks waiting & worrying about these results.

I was very sorry to read that you have experienced a delay in the provision of test results for your mother, if this is still a concern it would be helpful to have more detail so that we can follow this up for you with the individuals concerned.

If you would like us to do so, can you please provide some personal details in an email and send these to complaints@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and we can route your enquiry to a member of our complaints team who will assist?

Thank you.

Paul

Thank you for using Patient Opinion to tell us about this unacceptable experience. I have been reviewing all of the responses on the site and, following reflection on your feedback, wonder whether there might be ways in which improvements could be made to more effectively track results - possibly meaning that the fact that they had not been returned was picked up before you arrived at the clinic. I will share this with colleagues working on improvements in this area.

Best wishes

Craig White
