I have had leg pain while running for years and didn't think a lot of it until I joined the army. I made it to week 13/14 when I was pulled out of my troop and put into the rehab unit where I stayed for 17 weeks without any tests done on my legs. I had physio every day and promises of MRIs and pressure tests as they thought it might be compartment syndrome.
After the 17 weeks I was medically discharged and sent home. Within a week of being home I had been to my GP who sent me for an MRI which ruled out a stress fracture and shin splints. I was then sent to a leg doctor who decided surgery was best. He wanted both legs done but after the pressure monitoring test failed (because it was too painful to walk up the stairs fast enough to make my legs swell) surgery on one leg was decided.
In January I went to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline to have a fasciotomy on my right leg. I was called in the morning to come in at 10:30 instead of 12:00. I then waited in my chair until 14:00 while the other 4 people went for their surgery. Once I woke up in my bed back in the ward I was so happy I had finally had it done. My nurses Lisa and Karen were fantastic and made me feel so comfortable and loved. My surgeon Dr Dall was brilliant and my leg already feels better. The NHS staff are heroes and I cannot thank them enough for my stay .
Dr Dall, Lisa and Karen. Thank you for helping me.
