I had an endoscopy yesterday. I was told that the pre-op laxative procedure was the hardest part (it had made me vomit) and the rest would be a doddle. I was given a sedative by IV, or so I was told, but right from the outset of the procedure I was in great pain - and perfectly able to follow progress through my guts on screen. At one point, the sedative was topped up but all I could feel was a searing pain in my arm and even greater pain in my guts. I have never suffered such atrocious pain in my life. I seem to have none of the after effects of sedation. At the point of entry of the IV there is no trace of bleeding (there usually is), there is a hard lump to the side of the elbow. Post op, nurses seemed kind enough. Admin failed to inform Recovery to say the person who was to accompany home had arrived. I only knew of her arrival because she ended up by sending me a SMS after half an hour of waiting! Add the admin failures pre-op and post-up and the procedure itself, I would not recommend this hospital. To add insult to injury, I was advised to eat more fibre. So it is all the patient's fault??
