"Wishaw general maternity"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as the patient),

I cannot thank wishaw general maternity enough. After going in last week with contractions I was seen by triage and put at ease. After a night's stay the doctor done their rounds the following morning and agreed to an induction that evening, giving me time to sort child care and go see my children.

Upon arrival back at ward 23 on that evening, I was spoken to by Eloise and a student midwife who talked me through the induction process and what would happen.

My previous children were all born at Manchester, where dads aren't normally allowed to stay overnight. My husband asked Eloise the process and if he would have to go home, after a discussion it was agreed I would be moved to a side room and my husband could stay, as I labor quickly and I wouldn’t want him to miss the birth.

I had my first gel which didn’t really work. My next one followed the early hours of the following morning, which kicked things off. I managed to get some sleep but woke at 6am with contractions every 5mins apart.. managing to breathe through these until my waters went and my contractions went to every two minutes.

I was examined and 5/6cm dilated so taken to the labor ward where Eloise kept me calm taking me around and I met Julie Anne who delivered our beautiful boy. The care was amazing and second to none. We had to stay in for the day for some obs but was home the same evening. I cannot thank all the staff enough for looking after us and keeping us calm through the whole process.  I’ll be up some point next week with gifts :)

Thanks again

Dear Victoria93,

Congratulations on the birth of your son. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and your kind comments about staff.

They will be delighted to hear your comments and how they made a difference to your journey. Family centred care is really important to us and we have made a lot of changes to allow partners to stay when they wish. We know how important it is to have that support throughout.

I will make sure your comments are fed back to staff.

Kind regards,

Leah.
