I got a call one Sunday night from my mum saying that she was feeling a bot confused and that she wasn't feeling herself. I went straight up to her house only to find her very very drowsy and not making any sense, she was able to say that her head was very sore and that it came on suddenly.
I immediately called NHS24 for advice, the only problem i had is that i was on hold for 10.39 to get through to a call handler, i explained what had happened and was passed right through to a nurse practitioner. She listened to what i had to say and said that she was concerned about some of the symptoms and had decided to send an emergency ambulance for my mum. NHS24 were fantastic apart from the hold time however, my mum and i fully understand that they are a busy service.
When the ambulance arrived, the paramedics came in and straight away put me and my mum at ease. The way they conducted themselves with care, compassion and professionalism was absolutely fantastic. They were not sure if my mum had had a stroke or not so they decided Ninewells was the best place to go however, they called Ninewells and the doctor there decided that my mum should go to Perth Royal Infirmary.
Upon arrival my mum was treated promptly by a wonderful set of doctors and nurses who done a fantastic job, we are so lucky to have them in Perth. She was admitted to ward 4 at PRI and again the care she received was second to none despite it being an incredibly busy and fast paced admissions ward.
I would like to extend my most sincere thanks to all involved in the care my mum received, they all done an amazing job, thankfully she had not had a stroke but has been diagnosed with a neurological condition.
NHS24, Scottish Ambulance Service and Perth Royal Infirmary (A&E) & (Ward 4) we take our hats off to you and salute the hard work you do to help people in their hour of need, we would all be lost without you. We don't feel that you get enough thanks for the jobs that you all do in what are sometimes, very difficult circumstances.
Mum is now on the mend and hopefully we won't be needing you guys again, but at least we know if we do , you are only a phone call away.
