I remain 11 months on, incredibly disappointed at the care I received during my 3rd miscarriage Nov 2018 and my 4th miscarriage/ ectopic pregnancy in feb 2019. From the EPU clinic. Daphne ward, emergency theatres and ED were absolute stars. And between them they put in the time and care required.
But during my 3rd miscarriage I ended up screaming down the phone begging for help and then left to bleed for a week. At one point I paid for a private scan as I didn't know what else to do. I feel my options for managing the miscarriage in an appropriate manner were taken from me. Medical v surgical, meaning I was left for the baby to simply come away.
The 4th miscarriage/ectopic pregnancy, I called up about on the thursday and was told 'its implantation bleeding' before ending up in ED on the sunday evening in agony. I ended up losing a fallopian tube and having a pint of blood removed from my uterus. I am aware my miscarriages could not have been prevented but I feel the management was poor. Which meant my daughter witnessed things that could have been avoided.
My issue now is that because the hospital holds all of my medical and surgical records. If I were to ever have anymore pregnancies, i would feel i have no choice but to pass through their services. I am now entitled to an early scan should I 'fall' again. But I am terrified the EPU will for want of a better word fob me off. I suspect there are training issues and inexperience to blame for the way the staff nurses treated me.
"EPU - terrible care through my last two…"
