"Wonderful care from the maternity team"

About: Borders General Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

Our baby was born at the BGH in January 2020 and the care provided was incredible from start to finish.

Firstly we would like to thank Dr Magowan who spent lots of time carefully explaining the options for the birth of our baby, treated us with respect and provided unquestioning support for our chosen method of delivery. I will always appreciate that. As part of this he arranged for me to speak with Shona who took lots of time to explain the options for delivery and again I really appreciate her taking the time to do so as we found this really helpful.

We had a difficult week before the birth of our baby and had to attend the BGH a couple of times. I will always be grateful for the caring and non-judgemental way we were treated by the staff during that week which helped me through a very difficult time. Special mention to one of the midwives on ward 17, Anne, who was very kind, compassionate and reassuring.
Our baby was born by C-section and I cannot fault the theatre staff. I was very anxious about the birth for various reasons and it was clear that all the staff had read my birth plan in advance and took this seriously, which I am very grateful for. I can't emphasise enough how much it meant to me to feel listened to and respected. Special mention to the charge nurse who did an excellent job of carefully explaining every step of the procedure in advance which I found really reassuring, and also to the anaesthetist Vanessa who did an incredible job of explaining things, keeping me calm during the operation and putting me at ease. She managed to make me smile and laugh which I didn't think would be possible! The midwife, Rachel, who accompanied us to theatre was also amazing - very kind, reassuring, and did a fantastic job of looking after us throughout the rest of the day after the section was over.
The midwives who looked after us on ward 17 after the birth were wonderful, providing so much support with feeding and adjusting to life with a newborn. In particular we'd like to mention Fiona who did an amazing job of helping us through some difficult sleepless nights, and Kerrie who looked after us most days. She was so caring, helpful and reassuring and went above and beyond - she is a real credit to the team.
I want to say a huge, heartfelt thanks to everyone who looked after us. It's impossible to name everyone but we honestly can't fault the care provided. I will always remember how well we were looked after and will always be grateful for that.

It means so much to us all to hear how we are performing and we take a lot from it, and learn from it - Thank you so much from us all, the words 'Incredible' makes us all so proud of the jobs we do and the care we deliver.

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. It is lovely to hear from those who go through their pregnancy journey with us.

Taking time to listen and truly involve those in our care with their plan is so important to us as a team.

I hope things are going smoothly at home with your baby and that you are managing to get some rest.

best wishes

Shona
