"Radiology dept and use of ports for chemo patients"

About: Kingston Hospital

I wish I had known that the policy of the Kingston radiology dept was to only use cannula to deliver the contrast needed for MRI & CT scan check ups on impact of chemo on cancer.

I have a powerport which can be used for administering high pressured contrast during scans but the radiology department will not entertain the idea of using it, unlike larger, nearby hospitals that fully cater for those with cancer. This results in the need for repeated failed cannulations (as chemo patients viens are generally not in good condition) which are very painful and waste time. My last MRI (should have take around an hour) took over 2 due to this.

In addition there's a general lack of patient care and focus, you are left feeling like a body on a conveyor belt with the focus very much on getting the job done rather than the patient's comfort.

I would ask your support team to use radiology department elsewhere where they can use power ports until this policy is reversed. You'll need to use the same MRI machine throughout as they are calibrated slightly different so can impact consistency of images.
