"Visit to A&E with elderly parent"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My 84 year old mum was taken by ambulance to A& E at University hospital Wishaw at the end of December suffering from severe back pain and numbness in her leg/foot.

Although we had to wait 6 hours to be seen by a doctor  the care and  attention that she received from every member of staff at the University hospital Wishaw was second to none. Every member of staff from the paramedics, reception staff, doctors, nurses, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, radiographer could not be faulted in their kind, caring, considerate approach when dealing with my mum.

All groups of staff were obviously having to deal with increased pressures of work during a public holiday but this didn't distract them from being caring professionals. This type of experience makes you realise how fortunate we are to have an NHS service and amazing staff  as we do in Scotland.

Dear ILM

Thank you very much for getting in touch and for your comments in relation to the care and compassion your mother received whilst attending the Emergency Department here at University Hospital Wishaw.

It is very reassuring to read your story and it is nice to let the staff know that their care and personal attention is appreciated. I have no doubt they will be delighted for the feedback.

Thank you once again and I indeed hope your mother is feeling much better

Regards

Faith

Dear ILM,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on CareOpinion. I am so sorry to hear that your mother had reason to use our services and that of the wider NHS. It must have been a very frightening time for you all.

It is also so kind that you have noticed the increased pressures and great to hear that this did not have an impact on the care and compassion of the staff.

I do hope that your mother is feeling better now and I would like to wish you all the very best for 2020.

Kind Regards

Alan
