"Shocking state of provision"

About: Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust

Advised to take adult in crisis with mental health issues to A&E by Avondale unit. Finally got them there and no worth while assessment took place. Advised that the adult was making unwise choices and that it was common for people with chronic mental health issues to carry weapons. Also, the adult was deemed coherent enough to not warrant an immediate assessment, albeit they expressed that they were hearing voices, talking to dead people and were extremely paranoid.

Shocking to say the least! They referred for social care support to address housing issues...even when it was explained the the adult had been recently evicted twice, along with being violent, threatening harm and was at risk of doing this again!

If I had to advise anyone seeking support, I would say don't come here. It is appalling! There seems to be little support or understanding that it is more than likely the mental health that is the causal factor of their inability to cope socially.

I fear for what it might happen if people don't get the support they need!
