"C-section Recovery"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as the patient),

I gave birth to identical twin girls in December 2019 in Wishaw General Hospital. Following my C-section I became unwell with various ailments, which seemed to be unexplained due to my previous good health, in the end it was concluded that I had likely taken a reaction to a drug given to me to stop blood loss. I was kept in hospital with my twins from Monday and discharged on the Friday. I was given a single room and my husband was allowed to stay the full 5 days and was provided a bed.

The care I received was excellent and I was monitored closely to get to the bottom of my issues. All the staff I encountered on ward 24 (I believe) were extremely helpful and made my stay comfortable. There were however a few people who understood my individual needs and went the extra mile to help me emotionally and physically, these were Mary (Nightshift Care Assistant), Fiona (Day shift Care Assistant) and Yvonne (Day shift Care Assistant). I was very emotional about my inability to breastfeed, Mary and Yvonne were so supportive in helping me breastfeed and failing this making my decision to formula feed easier, I reduced myself to tears on several occasions and Yvonne spent time helping me understand that formula feeding is not the end of the world, my milk never came in, so these chats were exactly what I needed. I did manage to express with Yvonne's guidance and was happy that I managed to give my girls some colostrum.

Fiona couldn't have done enough for us during our stay, nothing was too much trouble and she always followed through on anything she said she would help with. I always felt comfortable asking Fiona for help/advice or during my excitement of managing to express 2ml of colostrum which Fiona showed enthusiasm for and helped me give this to my girls. I understand that the staff were all rushed off their feet, so the fact they still managed to meet my needs was greatly appreciated.

My girls were born healthy and have continued to thrive since leaving the hospital.

Dear Ralph88

Many congratulations on the birth of your twin girls.

Thank you so much for your lovely post in regards to the care you recieved while in University Hospital Wishaw Maternity Unit.

I am sorry to hear you had such a difficult time following the birth but delighted to hear the care you received while here was supportive and tailored to you and your babies needs.

We always try to ensure women and their families receive the best possible care and it is heartwarming to hear about staff going the extra mile to support the 4 of you as a family.

I am glad your husband stayed with the three of you overnight during your stay as having that extra support is helpful especially as you had double the work having twin girls.

Please be assured I will personally send Mary, Fiona and Yvonne a copy of your post and I know they will really appreciate your kind words.

I do hope you are feeling much better and both you and your husband are enjoying the time with both your girls.

Hopefully you are not having too many sleepless nights and you are getting plenty of rest.

Many Thanks again for your post

Kind Regards

Lyn
