"Care delivered to my dad"

About: Borders General Hospital / Cardiology Borders General Hospital / General Medicine Borders General Hospital / General Surgery (Ward 7)

(as a relative),

My dad had a 3 week stay in Borders general hospital. He was cared for in wards 7,ITU,5,4 . The care which was delivered to him was to of the highest standard, faultless and exceptional. He was treated with dignity and respect as were we. He returned home.

Unfortunately 2 weeks later he took a turn for the worse and ended back in the BGH.

He was a patient in ward 5 and we were informed that nothing more could be done for him and a palliative approach would be taken. It was my dads wish to die at home.

Eva (S/N in wd5) and Michelle ( palliative nurse ) displayed some of the finest nursing skills I have seen in order to meet my dads wish to go home, they are a credit to the BGH. The Hospital to home team supported my family in caring for my dad at home, they treated him and us with compassion and respect and allowed us as a family to spend a few precious days with him until he died. I am also a health care professional and fully understand the demands and obstacles that we face On a daily basis, however on this occasion I can speak as a daughter of a patient and could not be prouder of the exceptional care that was delivered to my dad and will be forever grateful to NHS Borders.

Dear Wuddy31

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. That you have taken the time, now when you are grieving to thank NHS Borders for the care that was provided to you and your family matters very much to us all.

Delivering person centered care at all times is so important both within the BGH and in community settings and is what we always strive to deliver.

I am so glad that your dad could spend his final days at home as he wished and that the palliative and hospital to home team are honored to have made this happen.

As a health care professional the greatest gift we can give is support to families in their time of need, as I am sure you have done many times.

Thank you for this message it will be shared with all of the areas and team members that you have mentioned.

With all good wishes to you and your family

Sarah
