"Hospital admission"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Acute Medical Unit Skegness Hospital

(as the patient),

Spent all day one Friday as normal. Went to bed at 10pm only to wake at 1pm feeling unwell. Having been awake all night rang 111. Who couldn't offer any appointments and dont even have access to the GP extended hub appointments. A clinician rang back offering to attend skegness urgent treatment centre at 3pm. Went to see a friend in the mean time arriving at 1245, by 1pm had rigours, a temperature of 39 degrees and an overwhelming feeling of doom. Antibiotics were given and was advised to go to pilgrim hospital if temperature kept spiking.

Having woken in the morning with temperature of 39.5 and difficulty passing urine decided to attend pilgrim. Agency nurse Odeyo and junior sister Ketman were amazing staff on that unit that day. They made me feel safe. Was in A&E for 8 hours before being transferred to a ward. 8 hours of sitting in a chair in room 15, a made up waiting area. Was then transferred to IAC and placed in a room with 5 other people. Already having a temperature, the room was heated to a totally uncomfortable temperature. There was no offer of a fan. Still not being able to pass urine. Again agency staff Harry, Doreen and substantive HCA Megan were outstanding.

Was then transferred thankfully to 3rd floor AMSS. The porter who I dont know the name was professional, courteous, respectful and informative. So nice to see a young man with such compassion.

Was greeted on the ward by HCA Lucy and agency nurse Sharon. Brilliant staff, attentive from first minute. Sharon was first to take notice about not being able pass urine and too action. Had a restless but peaceful night. Day one started with staff bursting into the room shouting good morning and putting lights on. Sister kerry looked after me that day and was amazing, professional informative and obviously very competent. HCA Michelle was also at hand and she was new but so compassionate. Had a good day on the ward with no complaints. Night staff came on and were obviously struggling as there had only been 2 staff on in the afternoon proceeding their shift. Nurse Ashlee and HCA Amy came on. Seemed quite chaotic and there was obviously someone leaving as there was a staff get together in the day room which was quite noisy.

One HCA was such a committed nurse but obviously felt undervalued. She was heard saying how she felt like she could cry at the thought of coming back in to a similar situation.

Woke up next eve to be looked after by HCA Reanna and SN Courtney. Again professional and respectful. Was discharged in the evening with discharge letter saying needing a twoc in one week, no one explained the process for receiving that appointment.

It was a great experience and I hope that these staff will all be made aware of my gratitude to them, for their care and professionalism that they maintain within difficult circumstances. Please ensure that they all understand how valued they are.
