"Care in urology recovery"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

This was my second stay in this dept within a year and the experience just gets better.

I cannot put in to adequate words the feeling of support combined with individualistic care I recently received. Everyone from the consultant to the cleaners did there bit to make my stay as pleasant as possible.

Of course we all realise that nursing is a calling rather than just another job but this team takes this to a whole new level of personal patient interest and care.

Whatever bit of urology you have done it is rarely a pain free pleasant experience especially in your late 70s. I felt nurtured and humbled by the lengths that the staff would go to make sure you understood and agreed with what the procedures they were doing to aid your recovery.

As a single instance, try asking your nearest and dearest for a cup of tea and a cheese sandwich at 03.30 and see what happens. This team didn't raise an eyebrow and did I take sugar was the only query.

That level of commitment may be a small example, but to the patient it is calming and re-assuring during those painful long hours of the night when sleep just won't happen.

So my thanks again to all those who had a part in my recovery on the Urology recovery ward 15. You made a sceptical ex vet very proud of our NHS.

Thank you for this wonderful feedback about Ward 15A. I am so pleased you felt reassured, supported and well looked after there following your procedure, and all your requests were met by the staff.

It is a fantastic patient centred ward and I know the staff will be delighted and humbled to read this review.

We have a patient stories programme in the Trust, where patients and their relatives discuss areas they were treated in on camera or by audio recording. This is then played in the monthly Trust board meetings and sent to all staff to raise awareness of our outstanding services. It would be great to capture your experience about Ward 15A. If this is something you’d be interested in please contact us on 01253 953548 or email bfwh.patientexperience@nhs.net.

I hope you are feeling better now and I wish you all the best for the future.

Kind regards

Eleanor
