"Dementia patient care"

About: Grenoside Grange Northern General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My father entered the health and care services of the NHS in July 2019 and was taken initially to A & E following a deterioration in his dementia.  This cannot be the most appropriate route to channel this type of patient.  I cannot fault the staff who were outstanding but I do feel there is a lack of understanding from front line clinical staff about the complexities and context of dementia.

Thereafter once he was admitted to Grenoside Grange the care, at all levels, has been again outstanding and we could not have wished for a better outcome delivered with passion, patience and professionalism.

Thank you so much for your kind review.

I completely agree that A & E is certainly not the best route into hospital for a person with Dementia and I hope in time that this will be looked at and rectified.

It is so good to hear that you feel your Father has received outstanding care whilst being on G1. Our philosophy is to treat our patients as we would want to be treated ourselves or how we would want our parents to be treated, so its great to hear that this is happening.
