"Ending the war with pain"

About: The Knoll Hospital / Day Hospital

(as a relative),

My mum spent the last weeks of her life in the Knoll community hospital in Duns. I wanted to share our deep gratitude for all the warm care and attention she received by everyone who works on the hospital ward. As we watched her live her final weeks we were very impressed and grateful that even her smallest wishes were taken care of and she ended the war with pain on her terms.   The staff took great care of mum and they were always  cheerful, caring, professional and patient with us as a family and made us feel welcomed and valued. We were even allowed in with our dogs and I know this gave great comfort to mum.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback the care your mum received whilst under the support of the team at the Knoll. The team work very hard to ensure that all their patients are cared for with the organisational values at the heart of all they do, so it was lovely to read your families experience of this.

Whilst this has been a very difficult time for you all, I am glad that some of the final memories you have of your mum are positive and you know that she was looked after well in her final days.

Please accept my condolences for your loss and be assured that I will feedback this letter to the whole team.

Kind regards,

Caroline Burgess

Clinical Nurse Manager
