"My complaints just get shrugged off"

About: Whitehills Health and Community Care Centre / Continence Service

(as a service user),

I get incontinence pads from nhs, I don't get enough to last the 3 months I have to wait before reordering and they told me when I complained about this that I was only allowed to wear 1 pad a day, when asked why this was as it is disgusting to wear a soiled pad all day long, I was told to wipe it out and put it back on. Well I'm on disability and don't get anywhere near enough money to buy what I need for my incontinence issues, so I have to do what I'm told, I get continuous pain in my pelvic area, infections, burning and upset stomach among struggling to eat due to the outcome on my gut, sickness, I spend almost all day every day in bed as I can't go out or do anything. Wonder why I'm even bothering to struggle on. I'm miserable in constant pain and discomfort and just don't know why no one will help me. My complaints just get shrugged off.

Dear “Demon Hunter”

I am very sorry to hear your experience with NHS Tayside in terms of absorbent pad provision and allocation. This is not the level of service we aim to provide and I will ensure your feedback is shared with the Teams.

We have a Continence Advisory and Treatment Service in NHS Tayside, which is staffed by specialist continence nursing teams, who are available for advice and support. I would therefore encourage you to speak to the nurse/clinician who carried out your continence assessment and/or your local Continence Advisory and Treatment Service to enable them to support you with your concerns.

Contact details for the service are as follows

Angus Whitehills HCCC (01307) 468383

Dundee Wallacetown HC (01382) 443528

Perth Drumhar HC (01738) 564258

Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention and, should you have ongoing concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Kind regards

Lisa Henry
