About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatric surgery ( Wards 3A & 3B) Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

FAB-U-LOUS!!!!!

I’ve just come home from the RHC after spending all day Tuesday in A and E followed by 3 days in Ward 1A after my 4 year old girl underwent an operation for Osteomyelitis.

How anyone can ever complain about our NHS is beyond me? We’ve had the most amazing care from the very start to the very second we left the hospital, I had to stop myself from giving all the members of staff a cuddle (this was really hard) - they’ve really made me one very blessed, happy, lucky mummy!

Huge personal thanks to the truly, utterly, fantastically amazing Miss Claire for the exceptional care provided to my daughter pre/during and post-operation - your diligence and care knows no boundaries. I’ll forever be grateful to you for making my wee girl better (and not the first time you’ve had to help with my children)! We saw lots of superheroes (Batman, Captain America, etc) in the hospital today (who were phenomenal) but for me, the doctors and nurses on the front line every single day are always the real superheroes in my mind (and always will be).

Massive thanks to the anesthetist (whose name has escaped me but he’ll know if this is him) for spending so much time with my little girl on the ward, and succeeding in being the FIRST person to get a canula in without my daughter getting completely distraught - told you - you’re all superheroes! Not only were you amazing prior to the operation both in calming my daughter and reassuring me, but I met you twice following the operation and you took time to talk to me and ask how she was (I’m forever in awe of the kindness you’ve shown both of us).

Thanks to all the utterly stupendous, caring, kind, passionate, empathetic, diligent, hardworking, generous, loving staff from Ward 1A who made my daughter’s stay a sheer delight (so much so, she was sad when we got told we could go home).

Tracy (you went above and beyond and made her feel like a true princess - I can’t thank you enough for helping her through a difficult week).

Marie (aka Pinkie Pie as named by my daughter) - that’s the second of my children you’ve looked after and your love, care, compassion, dedication, empathy, and passion for your role astounds me! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving so much time to my wee girl when I know you’re stretched in every single direction possible. You weren’t her nurse for today, but at her request you came to visit her, took time to have a laugh with her and made her the most amazing round of toast - I salute you from the very bottom of my heart and can never thank you enough!

Thanks to the lovely Dee on nightshift who ensured my wee baby wasn’t in pain during the night whilst I got some sleep (I didn’t speak much with you but know how amazingly well you looked after her).

Thanks to Rachel for sourcing the TV and DVDs - we would have been lost without it and I now know every single word to Home Alone 1 and 2 as I think we’ve watched them both approximately 6,378 times during our stay :-).

Huge thanks to Gayle for being so calm and caring while she was so upset this morning whilst getting her dressing removed and for helping to get us sorted for discharge (and dealing with my millions of questions) - you were a true superstar!

And a huge thank you to every single person that makes this hospital run and all the other nurses, registrars, etc that were involved in my daughter’s care.

From a mummy who was worried sick at the beginning of the week, I have come home with my little girl on the mend and in sheer awe of the service we have received - from the whole Kirkham family - THANK YOU!!

It’s now my mission to find a way to raise money and give something back to the hospital.

Dear Kirkham

Further to my colleague's response to your kind feedback I note that you are keen to explore options around ongoing support and raising funds for the hospital.

There are a number of ways which you can do this and I would be delighted to link you in with our partners at Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity who will be happy to have an initial chat and share with you the many ways you can support the hospital. The charity and its many supporters make a massive difference to the lives and experiences of our young patients and their families who come in to Glasgow Children's Hospital. If you are happy to do so, please contact me at Pamela.mcgoldrick@ggc.scot.nhs.uk Please quote reference number 718583.

I hope your wee girl is doing well and recovering at home now.

Best wishes

Pam

Dear Kirham,

Thank you so much for your truly inspirational feedback to our teams. I am delighted to hear your amazing feed back on you and your little girls journey within our hospital and I hope she is making a full recovery in time for Santa to visit her.

Thank you so much for taking the time whilst your daughter has been unwell, to submit this letter, in which you did not only thank the staff in looking after your child but you remembered the names of the staff looking after your little girl and all the things that they did to ensure her stay in hospital, was with the one thought of making it as pleasant an experience as possible for her and giving you the comfort to know that your child was important to us. I was also glad to hear that staff took the time to respond to your questions and you were made to feel at ease and comfortable in being able to ask all the questions mattered to you. It was lovely to hear the feedback of the staff caring for the little things that mattered to your daughter during her stay with us, and you felt that we were all superheroes!

I will feedback all your lovely comments to the staff and the difference they made to you and your daughters stay in hospital from the Emergency Department to the ward. I am sure they will be truly grateful for your time in responding to the care opinion, and knowing the difference they made to you and your daughters stay.

I would also like to let you know that we Thank You for your response to raising funds, and your support for the hospital.

Wishing you and all your family a lovely time at Xmas and a Happy New Year for 2020

Kind Regards

Mandy
