"Failed Miserably"

About: Shotover View

The care provided by Order of St Johns at Shotover View is sub standard at best - my grandmother lived at Shotover View for 2 years. It didn't begin well when Nan suffered a nasty fall in the garden area at night, we couldn't understand how it had happened and when asked about the CCTV was told 'it wasn't working' Great help especially with Nan's poor memory. Nan had been diagnosed with Vascular Dementia prior to be offered the place at Shotover View so they were fully aware of the diagnosis but as soon as Nan's symptom's got worse the management appeared to want/push for Nan to be moved to a Care Home so Dementia Specialist's they are not and maybe their prospectus needs changing!!. With regards to Nan's overall care - as a family we would visit Nan regularly, at times we noticed fraudulent times being placed in books, when we installed cameras to initially check on Nan and what she was doing we found we were monitoring the carers to see if they were doing what they were being paid to do - loads of discrepancies were picked up and this being in a property with cameras dread to think what happens to the residents that don't have cameras or have families to check on them. In short this place is ok if you can practically care for yourself or need minimal help. A handful of carers were amazing some lacked any initiative or caring ability. A lot of agency workers which isn't good for consistency in caring with people with dementia and some of those carers were dubious in character!!. The management are defensive when any issues are raised even when you have proof. We raised all our concerns with Safeguarding Team at OCC. Sadly if we had our time again we wouldn't have chosen Shotover View.
