I was thrown from my bus seat (no seat belts fitted) when the driver braked and swerved without warning. I was shocked, extensively bruised and a finger on my left hand was shattered on impact against a metal strut in the bus. I needed surgery and wires to repair the finger. That was done in Canterbury, but all the after care was provided by NHS Grampian staff.I then had many months of physiotherapy at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen - the expertise, patience, encouragement and sympathy I experienced was astounding. That sympathy meant a great deal as the bus company refused to take any responsibility for my injury.
Eventually, it was clear that while I'd made great progress, I could neither grip not straigntem my fingers. I needed further surgery to free up tendons which had stuck while my hand was healing. Only that would give me a chance to recover full use of the hand. I then underwent intensive physiotherapy and am continuing the physio, with extra support and advice from Occupational Therapy at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
