"Major Imporvement Required "

About: Royal Free Hospital

I first Dermatology in 2010/11 to get advise on laser treatment for my facial red birth mark(covers most of my face) however I was quickly turned away after a test patch because it required POLCE funding approval.

I thought I could live with the facial stain however few hard experiences changed my thoughts and I wanted to get it treated therefore visited again in 2018 with POLCE approved funding for laser treatment.

First appointment was in October 2018 and I arrived in time but waited for 4 hours to be seen (last one). I mentioned it to the consultant as the patients were called by him however he did not bother to answer, Nevertheless, we spoke about the treatment plan and the PDL laser energy level to be used with few test patches. We agreed on treatment session every FOUR MONTH as this is a important treatment protocol otherwise the fading/effect from the previous laser session could be reversed.

2nd appointment was in February 2019 , thankfully

did not have to wait long however I was not happy with the session as the level of energy used was not sufficient to make enough purpura/bruising effect which is an indicator that the treatment is actually working. I honestly felt the consultant was not interested in the treatment as few of his comments were negative e.g. you could have hypo pigmentation or scarring ( I signed the laser treatment undertaking and I am aware of this) and the laser settings were not changed to match the different areas of my face. However, I was told that this will be increased in the next session in June 2019.

Since February 2019 I am waiting to be seen as the appointment in June 2019 was postponed to July 2019 and then the July 2019 appointment was changed to November 2019 which is now again changed to April 2020.

I understand their might be some resourcing/ organisational issues in NHS however this should not effect a practise which runs once in a week and only requires one person.

On the other hand , I am sure that the private laser practice which runs in the same place and with the same consultants using the same laser does not cancel appointments, runs in time and provides effective session.

It is obvious that conflicts of interest and lack of individual integrity within laser unit of dermatology has ruined the values of NHS

In a nutshell , it was an appalling and shocking experience.
