"Second stay in hospital in short time span"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Trauma & Orthopaedics (Wards 1 & 5)

(as a volunteer/advocate),

Ward 5

Nurses excellent. Patient feels nurses spend time and have great patience with patients especially with patients who have vulnerabilities. Nurses go way beyond call of duty. Patient finds this whole situation very humbling.

The surgeon, very attentive explaining in detail what was happening. Although surgeon off at weekend was phoning in to find about how patient was.

Medication usually on time. Ward can be very busy. Family happy with care. Family allowed to stay during rather traumatic parts of patient’s care.

Improvement required: shortage of special dressing. Staff spending time looking for suitable size. Patients discharged too quickly. Cleaning staff to be commended for their diligent work.

Dear Uhh168,

Thanks for taking the time to speak about your hospital experience with our volunteer.

I'm delighted that on the whole you received good care, were well informed and included in planning your treatment.

The staff will delighted to hear what a positive impact they had on you. I note your observation about the availability of specialist supplies and I will ask the Senior Nurse to discuss this and review provisioning with the Senior Charge Nurse on the ward.

I hope this finds you in good health.

Kind regards

Rick
