"Very helpful and understanding"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

In October 2019 I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. I was devastated and terrified. At the pre-operative surgical assessment unit the nurse was very helpful and understanding and made a note of my fears about both the condition and also about having surgery, which was something that I had never undergone before. On the day of the operation I was struck by the kindness and compassion of all of the staff. I found it very helpful to meet both the anaesthetist and the surgeon, Mr Jones, prior to my operation. They both took the time to carefully explain what was going to happen and I found this reassuring. On the walk to the anaesthetic room the theatre nurse was very friendly and tried to distract me by chatting about other things (good strategy! ). I was very impressed by the care and compassion shown to me by the staff involved in my treatment and care. I know that unfortunately I am only one of many many patients that the NHS have to deal with, but I was treated as a valued individual and I just wanted to let the teams know that I really appreciate their attitude and values.
