"Waiting for surgery is making me ill"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Orthopaedics (Wards 10a, 10b, 10c &10d)

(as the patient),

I have been waiting for a long time to have a hip replacement at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital I have been in terrible pain for over a year , I eventually had a pre op in August this year with no op date eventually after complaining I get adate for early  December 2019 I had to go for another pre op late November and tests came back as me being anemic so my op for early December has been cancelled I have to go to my GP and get B12 and iron so I have no date for my op and no hope, as the surgeon only does three operations a week in the Queen Elizabeth hospital and even if my blood is sorted it could be months before I get another date ,

I am in terrible pain all the time I can’t sleep at night can’t walk  with out help and know that if I could have had a date for surgery not long after my pre op  I would have been fine I just feel my body is giving up I don’t have any strength to carry on as all I get told when I phone the surgeons secretary  is can’t give you a date or when you get a date there is a chance it could be cancelled what hope have I got? I just wish so much I would have been sent to another hospital which may have helped me instead of suffering all this time with no hope

Dear Please help me sleep and walk again.

Thank you for getting in touch. I am very sorry to hear that you have not had a good experience of our service and appreciate the frustration and anxiety you are going through waiting for your surgery. Unfortunately, as with other Health Boards, we do currently have long waiting lists for treatment. We are working to try and reduce these waiting times.

I understand that it is distressing to be in pain and unable to sleep, can I suggest that you speak to your GP about helping you to manage these symptoms. Your GP can also provide a clinical update to your Consultant.

Kind Regards

Nicole
