"We cant thank the medical staff enough for their help and support"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Medical Paediatrics (Children's Medicine) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

Our 3 month old daughter started having seizures on Sunday night, we called nhs 24 and were advised an ambulance would be sent out, we were taken straight to RACH and and kept in admissions over night.   We were then moved the next day to the Medical Ward.   Our daughter already has HIE grade 3, which is why she is now having seizures.   Her consultant for neurology came to see her and was wonderful with our daughter and explained clearly why our daughter was experiencing seizures.   We had different nurses caring for Olivia during her stay, Adriana, Aimee, Hannah and Jade were all wonderful.   They let me go rest in the family room.   Were there to support not only Olivia but myself as well.   The doctors were lovely and explained everything they needed to do.   We cant thank the medical staff enough for their help and support.   We were on ward until Wednesday evening.

Dear Cflan

I am sorry to learn that your baby daughter, Olivia, required to be hospitalised. I can only imagine what a worrying time this will be. It is so good of you to take the time to thank the staff involved in caring for Olivia. From what you describe, the staff within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary provided excellent care all round and are to be commended for this. It is great that, as Olivia's parents, you also felt supported and cared for.

The Care Opinion team has kindly tagged your story to NHS 24 as you mentioned a call to us on 111. I am pleased our staff recognised the severity of Olivia's symptoms and arranged for an ambulance to attend to transfer her to hospital.

Thanks again for getting in touch and sharing your experience.

Best wishes to you all.

Shona

Dear Cflan

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback on CareOpinion. I am so sorry to read about your little girl. That must have been terrifying. I have a 1 year old girl and even as a paramedic I know I would have been a wreck seeing that. I am pleased however to read about the experience you have received and how informed you were kept during such a difficult time.

I hope that your little girl is feeling better now and on the orad to a full recovery.

I wish you and your family all the very best.

kind Regards

Alan

Dear Cflan

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on care opinion. Seizures can be very scary to witness in children and more so when so young as Olivia but I am really pleased to hear that you left hospital with a clear understanding of why the seizures occurred and the relation they have with her underlying HIE. The staff work really hard to ensure that the family as a whole are cared for and not just the child as the patient and will be really pleased to hear that you felt so supported during your stay. I will pass on your kind words to them all.

I know that it is highly likely you will be back and forward to the hospital on a regular basis but I hope that this is not too often. Have a lovely 1st Christmas together

Kind regards

Kathryn
