"Rudeness of some staff"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department University Hospital Wishaw / General Medicine (Wards 5 & 8)

(as a relative),

After receiving a call from my husband saying he had to have an ecg and was heading to A+E  I rushed to Wishaw hospital  A+E to be told he had been sent to ambulatory care. The staff member at A+E was really nice and explained how I could get there . . on reaching ambulatory care things changed for the worse .

I told a staff member that I was looking for my husband and they asked for his name. I gave his name. This staff member told me that he was in there, but then said "no visitors". I asked what they meant and they just abruptly repeated "no visitors" and told me to go to the waiting room through the doors.

After this I turned and left the unit in tatters and a lot more stressed and worried than I was when I arrived, I got to the car park and heard my husband call me. He had left his hospital bed to come and make sure I was ok . I find it totally unacceptable that someone in a care profession can be so abrupt and rude  to anyone let alone someone who is already worried sick there's no need for it .. and I think a simple “you can’t see him but take a seat and I’ll tell him your here  or try and find out what happening “ was all that was called for

Dear Gosse59,

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience during your husband's visit to the ambulatory emergency care unit.

I am sorry that you have found the communication when you arrived not to the standard that we would expect and what I would think as unwelcoming.

In order that we can learn from this and ensure staff are engaged with this feedback I think it would be helpful if you could provide us with additional information. If you could please contact Yvonne.ross@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk.

I hope your husband is feeling better and all the investigations are complete.

Best wishes

Andy
