was recently admitted to the Golden Jubilee for aortic heart valve replacement. Every single member of staff I came into contact with displayed a high level of caring, and an eagerness to meet my needs and help me to feel better in an anxious provoking situation. These qualities were displayed by all staff from the receptionist who directed me to the right department through to domestics, porters, nurses, physios and the doctor and consultant who performed my surgery.
The great attitude of staff was so noticeable that I asked if a personality test was part of the recruitment process.
I have have never come across so many employees with such good positive attitudes towards helping and assisting patients. I think helpfulness is very important. Many people, from all walks of life have attitudes that are professional but helpfulness isn’t really part of that makeup except in a superficial way. In the Golden Jubilee staff are brimming with an eagerness to help. They also introduce themselves to you when first meeting you and call you by your name when addressing you.
It’s difficult to point out individuals who stood out to me among all of this good attitude but I do need to commend the nurses who looked after me when I was at my most vulnerable when in ICU and HDU. Unfortunately, due to all the medication I was prescribed at the time I cannot remember your names but I thank them for their care and kindness. I also need to commend my Consultant Mr Butler who was charming even when faced with my considerable annoyance when my first scheduled operation had to be cancelled at the last moment
One of the other stand out things for me was that at no time did I see or hear members of management on the ward demanding that patients be discharged to create beds for others.
I do wonder how this hospital has been able to create such a positive environment. Do they have a higher staff patient ratio than other hospitals. Do management figures role model, in a genuine way, the attitudes they wish staff to reflect? Do they genuinely not have a blame culture? Well done to all staff. Your care was appreciated.
