"Incorrect dosage of medication prescribed"

About: GPs in Oldham Oldham Integrated Care Centre

(as the patient),

After two days of not being able to get a GP appointment and first Access appointment was in 3 days I went to the Walk-in Centre in Oldham Intergrated Care Centre. I was very anxious as my tongue and lip was numb. I was triaged after 1hrs 40 mins by a very kind young health practitioner, who said my blood pressure was high (that’s the first time in my life), I was then asked to wait to see a Doctor thinking with the symptoms wouldn’t be too long.. I was getting frightened as I could feel my face dropping and asked the receptionist if I would be seen soon, she said hopefully.

I noticed a couple of people waiting to be seen had missed their name being called, although like me they hadn’t moved from the chaotic reception area. I then checked to be told I had been called 10 mins before, the receptionist admitted she had seen me stood there. The staff only peep out of the door and you can’t always hear them and I am not hard of hearing.

3.5 hours after arriving I was seen by a GP who diagnosed me with Bells Palsy, The GP was not sure if I needed to go to A&E, then after doing some reading prescribed me with 5x5mg of Predisilone per day for 10 days, they were very kind and printed out some info. The GP said 3 times it was a good job I went soon as the first 72 hrs are crucial for the best recovery.

A few days later, I woke up and the numbness had increased and left eye very painful, I went to see my own GP and she advised me that the latest guidelines advise 10x10mg of the steroid tabs each day, so I had only been prescribed half the dose, I Hope this doesn’t affect my recovery. My GP was surprised that the ICC GP hadn’t consulted the recent guidelines, she also said I should have been given eye gel/drops and advised to tape my eye. The GP from ICC had been asked to stay extra 3 hrs on shift.

During my wait a patient vomited in the middle of the reception area at around 3 pm a member of staff advised that there wouldn’t be any cleaners until the next morning. Eventually a nurse who was helping with the x-rays covered up the vomit with tissue paper and put some signs around. I felt this was disgusting for this to be left in a public area, not to mention the germs being spread, surely you should have contingency for this type of eventuality.

I appreciate you are all busy but nevertheless small improvements can be made to help both staff and patients.
