"My second grand-daughter"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital / Maternity

(as a relative),

My second grand-daughter was born at the Princess Alexandra hospital in Harlow, by unplanned caesarian section after a trial of labour for 24 hours.

I felt that the care that my daughter received at the maternity unit was very good, especially as they were obviously busy at the time.  She was discharged with the baby after 48 hours.

We felt sorry that the midwife who did the discharge had to spend a long time completing duplicate paperwork, because my daughter lives in Hertfordshire, rather than in Essex. Many women from Hertfordshire deliver at the hospital.  Surely the computer systems should be compatible, so that information can be shared easily?

However, the community midwife did turn up the next day, which was a Saturday, as promised, and had the correct information.

Dear friend,

It is always good to read comments made by fellow healthcare professionals.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make a comment, it really is appreciated. With regard to paperwork, we consistently have this kind of issue as each local authority has its own processes.

With regard to computer systems, they often do not work across the NHS, but there are moves to address this.

Thanks again for your empathic comments about our midwives, they definitely do notice when someone sees that they have challenges too, and it is good to hear that despite the challenges, people turn up and do things when they say they will.
